American Silk Mills (ASM), established in 1896, is among the oldest and most respected American textile brands. With prowess in designing, weaving and distributing, it offered a range of unique textiles for the residential, contract, hospitality and specialty markets in the US.
ASM’s products include innovative indoor and outdoor performance fabrics, fine jacquard textiles, multiple grades and styles of velvets, quality silks and sensuede, an eco-friendly synthetic suede noted for its durability, impeccable and long-lasting comfort.
In 2017, Sutlej acquired ASM’s Design, Sales and Distribution business, recognising that it offered a strategic fit around its own home textile aspirations. The North Carolina - High Point based company brought with it original designs based on American sensibilities, an innate understanding of customer markets and a unique product portfolio that includes dobby, jacquards, velvets and suedes using a variety of fibres like rayon, linen, cotton, polyester, silk and acrylic. It is also known for the manufacture of upscale fabrics in the Italian tradition of silk production.
In addition to the operational synergy delivered by the acquisition, Sutlej also benefited from ASM’s access to the American home textiles market as well as a boost to its overall economies of scale. With the weight of Sutlej behind its operations, ASM’s facility now enjoys augmented investment in infrastructure, and inventory new product launches, technology and creative capital to expand its business, enabling it to retain its position as a design leader and enhancing its ability to create and source exquisite range of textiles more efficiently.
